From Stone to Soul: The Artisan's Journey
At Jaipur Murti, we follow the Shilpa Shastras—ancient texts that dictate the exact proportions and rituals required to carve a deity. Here is how your custom murti comes to life.
Step 1: Selection of the Block (Sila Chayan)
Everything starts in the quarries of White. We select a "living stone"—a block without hidden cracks or impurities. We even test the stone's "sound" to ensure it is spiritually vibrant.
Step 2: Rough Carving (Rekha-Karna)
The artisan draws the outline of the deity directly on the stone. Using large chisels, the basic shape is "born" from the block. This is the most physically demanding stage.
Step 3: Fine Detailing (Ullikarna)
This is where the magic happens. Using tiny, surgical-grade chisels, the artisan carves the eyelashes, the folds of the clothing, and the intricate jewelry. This stage alone can take 3-4 weeks for a single 15-inch murti.
Step 4: Smoothing & Polishing (Ghisai)
No chemicals are used. We use progressively finer stones and water to hand-polish the marble until it shines like a mirror. This "natural polish" is what makes White marble stay white for centuries.
Step 5: Painting & Gold Work (Shringar)
The final touch is the Shringar. Using organic colors and 24K Gold Leaf, we paint the eyes (Prana Pratishtha) and ornaments, bringing the deity to life.
